Information Sheet

What does the ‘Parent Teacher Organization’ (or ‘PTO’) do for the students?

  • Raises funds so teachers can get classroom supplies and students can go on field trips
  • Organizes events so students, parents and teachers can have fun time together
  • Signs up volunteers to help with school activities, such as the International Night
  • And more!

In some countries, schools handle all the funds and events. At Thurston, the school and PTO work together to help students grow.

Who is in the PTO?

All parents, legal guardians, and teachers at Thurston are part of the PTO. If you are a parent or legal
guardian of a student at Thurston Elementary, you are automatically a member of the PTO—No need
to apply.

The PTO is here to help my child and the school. What can I do to help the PTO?

The PTO always needs help! You can start with joining the monthly PTO meetings and reading the
weekly newsletters to find out what’s going on and where volunteers are needed.
